Leon County hosted its yearly Fire Truck Round-up on Saturday (10/1).
Leon's Emergency Medical Services Chief Chad Abrams said the county's 6 volunteer fire companies really came to the rescue during the recent storm.
"The volunteer fire departments were able to respond to numerous events throughout the community during Hermine including trees down, electrical lines down and they assisted with road clearing," Abrams recalled.
Since 1998, local insurance agency owner Bobby Bacon has been honoring those firefighters.
"They're doing this just because it's a way they can contribute back to the community," Bacon said before Saturday's presentation.
And this year's Volunteer Firefighter of the Year, Woodville's Tom Milhalich, says the job is honor enough.
"It's not about an award; it's not about a certificate or trophy or anything like that," the 22-year firefighting veteran noted.
Saturday's roundup was a chance for the community to find out more about the volunteer fire companies and check out their tools of the trade.
