Leon County eighth grade student Charlotte Stuart-Tilley organized a school strike, held last week, to bring attention on the issue of climate change.

Stuart-Tilley rallied about 20 students, who waved signs in front of the Historic Capitol as some drivers honked in support

"I think seeing kids out here, as you drive by the Capitol – seeing kids out there protesting for their lives essentially, is really, really powerful," Stuart-Tilley said.

Some of the other participating students, ranging from high school to elementary grade levels, shared their concerns about a changing global climate – and what prompted them to join the strike:

"It’s kind of scary, to think about what our future’s going to be with the climate changing, and the world heating." - Dylan, 8th grade, homeschooled

"For me, it was probably, how much I care about the environment. I want them to know that we should use less electricity, when we don’t need to use it." - Joss, 3rd grade

"We need to have the government have a policy, and funding, for climate change again." - Leo Harai, 9th grade, SAIL High

Stuart-Tilley says she plans to hold future events aimed at prompting climate change action.
