Members of the Leon County Commission are considering a plan that would name a part of the local jail complex after the late Sheriff Larry Campbell. Campbell died in December after an extended battle with cancer. Commissioner John Dailey supports the move.
“This is a wonderful tribute to Sheriff Campbell, much deserved. I believe Vince has been in touch with the family as well to make sure this is in line with their wishes,” Dailey says.
Commissioner Bill Proctor has spearheaded the effort to recognize Campbell’s work. Under the plan, the jail’s administrative office, which houses the sheriff’s office, would be renamed in honor of Campbell. The Commission is expected to formally take the issue up at its next meeting.
