Boynton Beach, FL – The Everglades now has its very own caucus in the Florida Legislature. As Trimmel Gomes reports lawmakers from both sides of the aisle announced the formation of the caucus Monday, fresh off a tour of the Everglades.

Gathered under a tiki hut at Bedner's Farms in Boynton Beach, Democratic Representative Steve Perman explains why it's necessary to unite to protect the River of Grass.

"Ladies and gentleman no one is happy with the pace at which the Everglades is being restored. Restoring and preserving the Everglades is imperative."

To that end, Perman and Republican Senator Thad Altman, say the bipartisan, bicameral caucus will dedicate itself to participate in all legislative initiatives to accomplish that goal.

"The Everglades are important to Florida it represents preserving one of the most basic things, what it means to be a Floridian. We must, we must do it."

An initial meeting of the caucus will be held at the start of legislative session in January.
