Last Minute Shoppers Jam Stores As Hermine Nears

James Clarke Ash

Shoppers are flooding Tallahassee area grocery and department stores as they make last minute grabs for ice, bottled water and batteries in anticipation Tropical Storm Hermine.

Keith Whitfield of Tallahassee says he was surprised at first by the fierce competition for a parking space at the Publix Market at Lake Ella.

“I was when I first got here, then I remembered that storm was coming and it didn’t take long to figure it out.”

Supplies of batteries and ice were running low at the grocery store and bottled water was one of the most popular items. Hermine is expected to make landfall south of Tallahassee before midnight, bringing heavy rain and wind gusts of up to 70 miles per hour.
