Fort White businessman Jeff Moran is dropping out of the race to replace Congresswoman Gwen Graham.

A retired police officer and custom car mechanic, Jeff Moran cast himself as the ‘political outsider’ in the race for Congressional District 2. Moran plans on returning to public service, just not this election season.

“I put a lot of myself into this race. I put a lot of time, effort and my own money, which is different than a lot of people that run for office. I believe in this cause. I believe that one man can make a difference. I do want to be that man. Unfortunately this isn’t the time for it,” he said.

But he is throwing his support behind his former rival, Tallahassee attorney Ken Sukhia.

“As a candidate you always look into your opponents. I looked at him very carefully. And of the others, I see him as his actions match his words,” he said.

Sukhia will face physician Neal Dunn and attorney Mary Thomas in the August 30th Republican primary. Libertarian Rob Lapham and Democrat Steve Crapps are also vying for the seat. The newly-redrawn district is heavily conservative, extending from Panama City to Ocala. The current representative, Democrat Gwen Graham, is not seeking reelection.
