The Florida House passed its own version of a Senate district map Tuesday. Now the map heads back to the Senate for approval or the chambers will have to work out a compromise.
Pushing ahead swiftly, the Florida House took up and passed its version of district boundaries for the state senate. After the vote, House redistricting chairman, Jose Oliva had some harsh words.
“Sure it’s gamesmanship,” Oliva says. “They’re not an honest player in this process it makes things that much more difficult, they’ve been given—apparently they feel they’ve been given license to run amok throughout the entire process.”
But that critique is aimed at the coalition of plaintiffs who brought the Legislature to court—not the Senate. After the vote lawmakers passed a motion sending the matter into joint conference if the Senate doesn’t accept the House’s map.
