Gun control activists are pushing voters to keep the issue top of mind when they enter the voting booth this November. The Vocal Majority bus is on a nationwide tour.
Former Congresswoman Gabby Giffords and her husband Captain Mark Kelly are behind the effort to make gun control a key issue in this year’s election. They’re sending a bus to 14 states in hopes of convincing voters to send candidates to congress who will back proposals like expanded background checks. Tallahassee Mayor Andrew Gillum says the idea crosses party lines.
“Democrats and Republicans all believe that there are some very common sense steps that can be taken to ensure the safety, the security of our families, of our neighbors and our neighborhoods,” Gillum says. “This is not an assault on anyone’s second amendment right to carry a weapon.”
Gillum spoke at the Vocal Majority’s stop in Tallahassee. The tour will last a total of six weeks.
