Grouper Season Gets A Restart In The Fall

If you’re a resident of the big bend area you may get to have grouper on your dinner table more than often. The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission has added a fall gag grouper fishing season to the spring season.

Starting September 1 recreational fishermen in the big bend area will be able to go after gag grouper for the second time this year in Franklin, Wakulla, Jefferson, and Taylor counties. Marine Fisheries Management Representative, Martha Guyas says the additional season won’t put the state at a risk of reaching the federal limit of fish caught.

“We do not anticipate adding this season portion will result in a quota overage. We had longer season and had quota increases but that federal quota is not being met,” Guyas said.

The fall season of September 1 through December 31 will open later this year.
