Tallahassee, FL – Jeanine Brown is a new mom. Her son, Aaron is eleven weeks old. She is breastfeeding, for many of the same reasons that other mothers do- it facilitates attachment, babies tend to be healthier and have higher test scores. And, like many other mothers, she is very conscious about breastfeeding in public.
Her attitude is not uncommon among new mothers. Molly Shaker, owner of the boutique, says that society tells women that breastfeeding isn't appropriate, especially in public, when many states have laws that say it is perfectly ok.
The support group meets every Wednesday morning at 11. They cover a variety of topics from breastfeeding to getting babies to sleep during the night. For WFSU-FM, I'm Lynn Hatter.
