Emergency responders in Florida are preparing for Tropical Storm Colin to make landfall Monday evening. Governor Rick Scott has declared a state of emergency in 34 counties ahead of the storm.
Tropical Storm Colin is a broad disorganized storm moving Northeast through the Gulf of Mexico toward Florida’s western coast. Monday morning Gov. Scott huddled with the state’s emergency management team, and he’s urging everyone to be prepared.
“There’s going to be a lot of rain,” Scott says, “we can have tornadoes, we can have lightning, we can have hail we can have flooding, we’re going to have storm surge you can have rip currents, I want everybody in our state—every visitor to our state every family in our state—to be safe. Every family has got to do their part.”
With sustained winds of about 50 miles an hour, Colin is relatively mild. But officials are concerned about storm surge in some coastal communities and flash floods further inland.
