Ethics complaints have been filed against Florida Gov. Rick Scott this week claiming he hasn’t disclosed campaign travel aboard his wife’s airplane. A young Central Florida man is asking the state to investigate the incumbent governor.
Three complaints have been filed with the Commission on Ethics and Florida Elections Commission. Attorney Ron Meyer, a lobbyist for the anti-Scott Florida Education Association, filed them. But 22-year old Alejandro Victoria says he asked for Meyer’s help after reading last month’s Tampa Bay Times report that questioned Scott’s air travel disclosure.
“We can hold our own politicians accountable on anything like this," Victoria says. "It doesn’t take a huge political arm. It doesn’t take anything like that. We can do it as citizens. So that’s what I hope to bring about.”
The Florida Democratic Party sent out a news release saying "Democrats" had filed the complaints and naming Victoria as "a volunteer in Democratic politics."
The complaints claim Scott failed to report use of the air craft as an in-kind contribution during the month the travel occurred. At the same time, the Times reported, the Republican Party of Florida paid Ann Scott's company more than $11,000 for use of the plane during April.
