FWC Hosts Prescribed Burning Workshops

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission is hosting prescribed burning workshops for private landowners in North Florida.

North Florida residents can learn how to manage a prescribed burn safely and effectively, at workshops on December 1st and 13th. FWC is encouraging landowners to band together to share equipment and experience. The agency says these private associations are successfully managing lands in the Midwest, and hopes to see similar results in Florida. Controlled burns reduce the risk of wildfires, and some native plants actually depend on periodic burning in order to survive. North Florida is currently experiencing drought conditions, making the potential danger of a forest fire extremely high.
