FSU and UF Have Fun On April Fool's

Florida State University via Facebook

It’s April Fool’s Day, and in an elaborate prank, Florida State University and the University of Florida ponder the idea of a fictional merger.

The fake Gator-Seminole merger creates one school in Perry, Florida, a halfway point between Tallahassee and Gainesville. In a video on FSU’s Facebook page, Presidents John Thrasher and Kent Fuchs discuss a new name.

Others jumped in on the joke, including the City of Perry, which tweeted a mockup of a light-rail system for the new campus. After letting fans and students react to the news, the universities posted a video of both presidents saying “April Fools.”

Ashley Tressel is a senior Communication and English student at Florida State University. Before WFSU, she interned at the Executive Office of the Governor and The Borgen Project, a national nonprofit for global poverty. She also wrote freelance for Carbonated.tv, a multimedia news site and served as managing editor for the FSU International Programs magazine, Nomadic Noles, in Valencia, Spain. After graduation, Ashley plans to embark on her journalism career somewhere in Colorado.
