Free Legal Advice, Claims Help Available For Oil Spill Victims

Free legal advice is available for people who might have a claim from the 2010 Gulf of Mexico oil spill. And those with low incomes can file medical, property, and business claims, with help from Legal Services of North Florida.

The nonprofit Legal Services of North Florida serves people with the lowest incomes. But, after a class-action settlement with the BP oil company, Legal Services senior attorney Leslie Powell says, the group is offering advice to anyone in the state.

We’re here to help anyone who just wants to discuss whether or not they have a claim," she said. "And while we certainly don’t have the staffing to help everyone who comes in the door, we certainly would like to help and talk through that process with them.”

Florida residents have until Nov. 1 to opt out of the class-action law suit.

Legal Services of North Florida has offices in Tallahassee, Quincy, Panama City, Fort Walton Beach and Pensacola. To begin the claims process, Florida residents can call their toll-free number, 855-299-1337, or visit www.lsnf.org.
