Fla. First Lady To Kids: Read During The Summer

Just because school might be out for summer doesn’t mean children should stop reading and learning. That was the message Florida First Lady Ann Scott gave Friday at the kickoff to her Summer Literacy Adventures program.

The First Lady’s literacy adventure began Friday with a talk to student campers at the Tallahassee Museum. Scott told the students, in grades one through four, that she often spent her own childhood summers in the library picking out stacks of books.

“And I would pretend that I was an imaginary character in the book or on an imaginary adventure," she said. "Do ya’ll do that too?”

The first lady then challenged the students to set goals for themselves to read at least 20 minutes every day over the summer.
