Fight for 15 Wants to Change Policies for Future Generations

$8.05 an hour is not a viable living wage. That’s according to the activist group Fight for 15. The group rallied at the capital on Monday.

Fight for 15 focuses on economic, social, and racial injustice. Group member Clint Cuyler says if lawmakers are unable to make a change, his group will push for a change at the polls.

“Enough is enough,” said Cuyler. “We are out here today because these are moral issues that need to be addressed by our governor…and everyone who is in office. Everyone who isn’t with us, we need to get them on board because, because this is what is going to get you in office. If you’re with us, we’re with you.”

The leaders and organizers of Fight for 15 are focused on the upcoming presidential election, but also highlight the importance of local elections.

A group of Floridians is fighting for a higher minimum wage. The activist group, Fight for 15, rallied in front of the capital on Monday to tell Governor Rick Scott that $8.05 an hour is not a viable living wage.

The leaders and organizers of Fight for 15 claim lawmakers are not focused on raising the standard of living. They hope to change that. Isaiah Barfield hopes to lay the foundation for change for future generations.

“We sacrificed our present day for our future. And our future is our young kids,” Barfield said. “And our future is what we live for. We don’t live for the past. And Rick Scott is living in the past paying minimum wage today.”
