FEMA urges Floridians to apply for disaster loans

In response to Tropical Storm Debby FEMA and the U.S Small Business Administration are saying, “We can help.” The two government agencies have set up disaster recovery centers in several Florida counties. Floridians must apply by the September 4th deadline if they want assistance.

The two federal agencies are in Florida to help those with property and economic damage from Tropical Storm Debby. They’ve set up ways to apply over the phone, online, or at one of eleven recovery centers.

“Probably eighty percent of the assistance that we provide to people here in Florida will go to individuals. If we are not able to help you, we may refer you back to FEMA for possible further grant funds," says Small Business Administration Spokesman Carl Sherrill. He said Floridians should apply for loans even if they have doubts they'll qualify.

The grants FEMA provides could cover damages that insurance does not. Floridians can receive grants for things like property damage to medical bills and transportation.
