FEMA Encourages Community To Apply For Disaster Recovery

In the wake of hurricanes Hermine and Matthew, Federal Emergency Management Agency has set up a Disaster Recovery Center at the LeRoy Collins Leon County Public Library. Centers, like this, are set up in areas that have been affected by natural disasters to encourage the community to register for funding from FEMA’s disaster recovery assistance. FEMA Spokesman Ruben Brown says the first step is to check your insurance.

"The key is to register as soon as possible," said Brown. "People may be eligible for FEMA assistance if they have uninsured or underinsured needs. They may be able to get assistance with housing assistance, if they’re renting. They may be able to get assistance with a home repair, assistance with storage, infant care, any number of things."

Brown says the Center will be open as long as a local need exists.
