If internet searches are any indication -- and that’s a big “if,” -- Democrats will get a bigger bump from their national convention than Republicans.
For the first time, managers at search engine giant Google say they’ve been able to get real-time data on internet searches during the Republican and Democratic national conventions.
Google data editor Simon Rogers says one trend stands out.
“There is a really interesting spike last night, which is not the thing we were expecting to see. We saw a 190 percent spike in surge interest in voter registration, which is actually the highest point since the end of the primaries.”
The Democratic convention is generating twice as many searches for voter registration information as the Republican convention, Rogers says.
Rogers says it’s not clear whether that has to do with President Barack Obama’s star power. And it’s far too early to say whether that will translate to votes.
