Tallahassee Firefighters have kicked off their 62nd annual MDA “Fill the Boot” campaign. It’s to help raise money in the fight against Muscular Dystrophy, the muscle disease that can severely limit strength and mobility. TFD spokesman Mike Bellamy says they’re dedicating this year’s boot drive to Joshua Richard, who passed away this year.
“Many of us were at Joshua’s service a couple months ago,” he said. “And, he was diagnosed at age 3 with Muscular Dystrophy [MD] and passed away at age 25, never expected to make it out of elementary school, and ended up at Florida State, and did many incredible things. And, if you remotely know a little bit about Josh’s story, then you’re deeply inspired to carry on his passion. He was a champion for the fight against MD.”
From Friday to Sunday, more than 200 Firefighters will be at nine different locations, including Publix and Winn Dixie. The goal is to raise $15,000.
