The Constitution Revision Commission will hold a public hearing in the state capital.
The thirty-seven member board will make a stop at the Efferson Student Union at FAMU on Wednesday April 12th at 5 o’clock, with doors opening at 4. The length of the meeting will depend on attendance and public interest.
The forum was initially slated for Pensacola, but staff say a West Florida meeting will be rescheduled. The hearing is a chance for voters to weigh in on the future of the state and its most important document.
Experts and former members say the CRC is rare opportunity for advocates to offer proposals that would be difficult to pass through the legislative or citizens' initiative processes. Voters have already voiced concerns about automatic restoration of voting rights for felons, opening the state's primaries, and codifying civil rights for the LGBTQ community.
After taking public input, the Constitution Revision Commission will draft amendments that will go directly on the 2018 ballot for voter approval. Any proposals will need the support of sixty percent of voters in order to pass.
