Leon County Commissioners are hiring a consultant to help get funding following Hurricane Hermine. County Administrator Vince Long says filing requests with the Federal Emergency Management Agency, FEMA, can be tricky.
“There have been major rule changes since Hurricane Sandy and we believe that expertise is needed. It’s also a reimbursable expenditure,” Long says.
Long says the county has exceeded the damage cost required to receive FEMA assistance. He expects Florida to meet the $26-million state threshold required to get assistance from the federal agency.
