Capital Report: 05-22-2015

Florida is losing more than half of a critical hospital funding program but lawmakers are grateful to at least have a number they can start building a budget around. Still as Lynn Hatter reports, the legislature continues to grapple with how to deal with a substantial budget hole, and will have to address healthcare funding for uninsured Floridians soon.

Now we head east down Interstate 10 from Tallahassee to Jacksonville. This week, the River City elected a new mayor: former state G-O-P Chairman Lenny Curry.  As Melissa Ross of member station W-J-C-T reports, the two major political parties fought a bitter contest over the mayor’s office in the nation’s largest city.

Senator Marco Rubio is leaving his spot in the US Senate open as he throws himself into the ring for president. Plenty of politicians are eyeing it while the upholstery’s still warm. Matthew Seeger reports.

Governor Rick Scott’s “In Box” has been filling up with legislation from the regular session.  We have three reports on that topic.  The first one, from Caitie Switalski, was ready to go when the governor went on a signing binge.  Caitie has the latest on what’s pending for Scott’s pen.
