Florida lawmakers are at odds over how much playtime to give students. It’s a parent-backed push to provide recess to more public school students. Right now, districts make that decision on a school-by-school basis, and some kids get it, others don’t. The latest: The Senate wants at least 20 minutes a day of recess, but the House would let PE substitute for some of that time, a possible deal-breaker for advocates who say the two should be separate. But as Rowan Moore Gerety from member station WLRN in Miami reports, even in places where recess is mandatory, students still don’t get it.
