Capital Report: 04-03-2015

The Florida Senate is working on a measure that would alter the way some home insurance claims are billed.  And Nick Evans reports some in the repair and restoration industry worry it could put them out of business.

Florida Fish and Wildlife officials have released a plan to open a bear hunting season for the first time in two decades. They’ll discuss the details of the proposal at an FWC commission meeting scheduled for later this month. Regan McCarthy reports Wildlife officials claim a hunt is needed to address a rising number of bear attacks as the smell of food pulls bears out of the woods and into neighborhoods.

The Florida legislature is on a four-day break as the 2015 lawmaking session hits its midpoint. And that time is probably a needed cool-down. The past two days in the House and Senate have been fraught with angry, passionate, and at times blunt speeches on the future of healthcare, lobbyists, and standardized testing.

An ever-changing measure initially mandating all law enforcement wear body cameras is now heading to the Senate floor, after passing its final committee Thursday. Sascha Cordner reports.

With the Florida Legislature taking a long weekend, Tom Flanigan reports it’s a good time to go fishing.  We’ll do that right after he tells us about a bill that would make Florida’s infamous small town speed traps a thing of the past.

Finally on capital report, No self-respecting conservative makes it to Tallahassee without promising to crack down on crime. But as Jim Ash reports, that commitment to law and order often stops at the courthouse door.
