A body cameras-related bill is now heading to the Senate Floor. The committee bill’s main sponsor is Sen. Greg Evers (R-Baker) in his capacity as chair of the Senate Criminal Justice Committee.
“What the purpose of this bill is just to set up the requirement of having the policies and procedures that law enforcement would have to use in order to use these cameras,” said Evers, during the bill's first hearing, earlier this month.
Evers’ measure passed the Senate Fiscal Policy Committee unanimously Monday. Meanwhile, the Florida Senate is slated to vote Wednesday on another body-cameras related bill by Sen. Chris Smith (D-Fort Lauderdale) that provides a public records exemption for body camera recordings done by law enforcement.
