Biggest Threat From Tropical Storm Andrea: Tornadoes

Most of Florida is under a tornado watch as Tropical Storm Andrea makes landfall. The quick-moving storm is expected to cut through Florida and head into Georgia by midnight.

Tropical Storm Andrea is moving from the Gulf of Mexico across to Jacksonville on the East Coast, with the eye of the storm expected to make landfall in northern Dixie county around 3 p.m. Florida Governor Rick Scott says, the whole state needs to be alert.

"We’re going to have some flooding, but the biggest risk we have right now is these tornadoes. We’ve already had eight tornadoes, and that’s probably our biggest risk. Everybody’s got to look, watch out, you know, follow the tornado warnings and watches.”

Scott says, although Andrea should be out of Florida by tomorrow, it’s a reminder to have three days of food and water on hand throughout storm season.

Taylor County emergency management officials have enacted a voluntary evacuation notice for residents in low-lying areas and mobile homes. And two storm shelters are opening in Taylor County this afternoon: Steinhatchee Elementary School opened at 2 p.m., and Taylor Elementary will open at 3.
