Some lawmakers want to change how the state manages assisted living facilities. But the proposal is leaving some stakeholders uneasy.
Some assisted living facilities in Florida carry licenses to offer certain nursing services. Currently, state health officials audit those facilities two or four times a year depending on the license, but the House measure cuts those visits in half. Families for Better Care executive director Brian Lee says the bill puts facility managers ahead of residents.
“It’s going to put more of our loved ones in danger who are in these assisted living facilities, and it’s going to make life easier for operators because they’re not going to be regulated or cannot be held accountable as often as they should be.”
Rep. Larry Ahern (R-Seminole) is sponsoring the measure. It got a second hearing in the full House Tuesday.
