A tribute to O.L. Samuels who was a leading figure in Southern Vernacular Art. Samuels sculpted mythical creatures using found materials - tree trunk, roots, and pieces of old wood furniture - coated with a secret blend of paint, glitter, sawdust, and glue warmed over the stove. His artworks are as alive as they are bright. Samuel's artistic career began when, in the face of depression brought on by an accident, he recalled his grandmother's advice, "When the mind gets tangled up ... carve on a wooden spool." Samuel's unique sculptures have been national recognized and can be found in museum and private collections across the United States.
