In a national firestorm, the U.S. House Republicans held the line just 13 votes shy of the two-thirds needed to override the president's veto of a bill to provide health insurance to ten million American children. And Florida's congressional delegation is right in the thick of it. Congressman Adam Putnam of Bartow, the House's third-ranking Republican, played a key role in sustaining the veto and now says it's time for a bipartisan solution.

Tallahassee, FL – The Capital City Bank branch at the corner of Old Bainbridge Road and West Tharpe Street was held up around 1:20 Tuesday afternoon. The robber, described as a black man with a towel wrapped around his head, didn't show a weapon and ran off with the money. City Police think he may have escaped in a vehicle parked at nearby Fogle Court.

A federal judge in Virginia has ruled that a high school discriminates against a trans student named Gavin Grimm by denying him access to the restroom that corresponds to his gender identity. Grimm says the ruling was "really fantastic," not just for him, but for trans youth in general.
