U.S. – David Sloan, director of government relations with the AARP, says it's already tough for many older Floridians to find a doctor who takes Medicare patients

Sloan says it soon may get even tougher. That's because Medicare is set to cut its payments for physician services by ten percent in 2008. The U.S. House has passed a bill reversing the cut, but the Sloan says the outcome is far from certain in the Senate.

Tallahassee, FL – Florida lawmakers passed a proposed constitutional amendment that doubles the
homestead exemption and allows residents to take an assessment cap with them when they moved. That's called portability. And local government groups say it complicates efforts to measure the proposal's impact on city, county and schools. Among the groups withholding judgement at this time is the Florida Association of Counties. Cragin Marsteller is the FAC's spokesperson.

Tallahassee, FL – According to the institute, the Baby Boom generation will restart Florida's struggling housing market. But that won't happen for at least five years. In the meantime, Florida needs to be prepared to deal with more budget problems. David Denslow is an economics professor at the University of Florida- Gainesville. He co-authored the book version of the 2005 report, Tough Choices .

FAMU's student body is massive. There are several different events going on simultaenously and each one is packed .


They found out rather quickly and got to work setting up the tents and stage and getting ready for the Orange and Green Edition of the Black College Tour- a yearly event that features different historically black colleges around the country.

Tallahassee, FL – FEA president Andy Ford says the proposal could cost schools as much as three billion dollars over five years. And he says he believes the governor is sincere when he says he wants to hold education harmless. But Ford says public schools cannot afford to lose billions of dollars.

So deep in fact, that the connection is physical. Twenty years ago her mother was a student, and stayed in Diamond Hall. Now, Jessica calls the same dorm home.

Me and my brother used to dress alike in our orange and green and we used to have our little pompoms. I remember looking at the cheerleaders.

Tallahassee, FL – The agency serves about 25,000 people through a Medicaid waiver, with another 15,000 on a waiting list. But now, with a $100-million deficit, APD spokesperson Melanie Etters says that some people will soon lose some services through a legislative effort to reduce the deficit.

The five services that will be eliminated on December 1 are Chore, non-residential support services, home-maker services, massage therapy and IQ testing.

Tallahassee, FL – Crist launched a four-city tour less than 24 hours after the Legislature placed the proposed constitutional amendment on the ballot. He has 90 days to convince voters to go along with the legislature's plan to double the homestead exemption and add portability to the save our homes tax cap. Crist has pushed tax reform as a way to revive Florida's sluggish economy. And he says he expects immediate benefits from the plan because he says, it offers hope to Florida property owners.

Hundreds of years before solar viewing glasses were readily available, scientists and casual spectators could still enjoy these rare celestial events without frying their eyeballs. They'd use a combination of pinholes and mirrors to redirect the sun's rays onto a screen.

Spanish authorities say they've rescued 593 migrants at sea in just one day.

The Spanish Maritime Safety & Rescue Agency, also called Salvamento Marítimo, said it recovered the people on 15 boats Wednesday in the Strait of Gibraltar and the Alboran Sea, the western part of the Mediterranean Sea.

In recent months, mothers who nearly died in the hours and days after giving birth have repeatedly told ProPublica and NPR that their doctors and nurses were often slow to recognize the warning signs that their bodies weren't healing properly.

Brandon Martinez, 16, was one of nearly 40 undocumented immigrants found on a blistering summer day inside an unventilated trailer parked at a San Antonio Wal-Mart. Ten died, and Brandon barely survived.

Federal officials who interviewed some of the survivors say that the human cargo was assembled and loaded into the truck in the border city of Laredo.

Some had paid smugglers to take them across the Rio Grande in rafts. One immigrant said there were as many as 200 people in the back of the truck.
